Lately, I’ve been finding myself drawn to more colorful outfits. Up until recently, I’ve been guilty of gravitating toward neutrals: grays, whites, blacks, and navies… or olive green, baby blue or burgundy when I’m feeling a little bit wild. I’ve been this way for as long as I can remember, perhaps it was a way to blend in with the crowd. I remember packing up my wardrobe for college, and there was just a sea of gray – it was quite depressing looking! My mom took one look at my clothing piles and drove me to the mall immediately to buy some more colorful items. Let’s just say, old habits die hard. Once those eye-popping tops were stuffed in my new dorm room drawer, they never saw the light of day.
While my natural instinct is to go for neutrals, I’ve been branching out to bolder and brighter outfits. Now, you’re probably laughing because this Anthropologie halter dress I have on is far from blinding, and I acknowledge that! However, what I do love about this dress is how it incorporates these summery orange, pinks, and yellows in a muted way. I feel as if I’m getting that summer fix wearing my dress without making such a huge statement. And, while you can’t really tell from the photos, the skirt has a beautiful sheen that creates even more visual interest.
I could have chosen bolder accessories to make a statement, but I was in a rush and chose my go-to’s: my brown leather sandals and crossbody. They are both so easy to match since they’re neutrals (see, I have a problem here!) and, as a result, they repeatedly show up in my outfits. I’m a huge sucker for brown buttery leather when it comes to bags and shoes. Had I had more time, I could have worn these Madewell flats and this Loeffler Randall clutch instead. How would you have accessorized this Anthropologie halter dress?
